Best Parks and Outdoor Locations for Family Photos in Bucks County.
One of the questions I get asked most often: “Where should we do our family photos?” After years of shooting outdoor family sessions across Bucks County, here are my favorite spots and what makes each one work.
Tyler State Park
Wide open fields, a covered bridge, and river views make Tyler Park one of the most versatile locations in the area. It photographs beautifully in every season, but especially in fall when the tree line turns gold.
Core Creek Park
A quieter option with a lake, walking trails, and soft natural light in the early morning and evening. Great for families with toddlers who need room to wander and explore during the session rather than sit still.
Washington Crossing Historic Park
For families who love a mix of history and nature: stone walls, tree-lined paths, and open lawns near the river. It has a timeless, slightly formal feel that works well for extended family or multi-generational sessions.
Peace Valley Park (Lake Galena), Doylestown
A favorite for families who want space and water views in one place. Wide open trails wrap around Lake Galena, with docks stretching over the water and tall grass fields perfect for kids to run through. No entrance fee, though a photography permit is required.
Fonthill Castle, Doylestown
A storybook setting with stone architecture and winding garden paths. Especially magical in spring when the surrounding flowers are in bloom: a great choice for families who want something a little more elegant and unexpected.
Ralph Stover State Park / High Rocks Vista, Pipersville
For families who love a bit of adventure. Dramatic overlook views and rocky terrain create a bold, unique backdrop: best suited to families comfortable with a short hike to reach the vista.
Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve, New Hope
Meadows, winding trails, and colorful wildflowers make this the go-to spot for spring and summer sessions. A soft, natural setting that photographs beautifully without needing much staging.
DE Canal State Park
A smaller, quieter park with a pond, fountain, gazebo, and bridge, plus an open field with sunset views. Simple, charming, and easy to move around in with young kids.
Graeme Park
A quieter, historic 42-acre park with the Keith House as a backdrop and nature trails throughout. Ideal for families who want a peaceful, less crowded setting with a timeless feel.
Choosing the Right Season and Time
Golden hour: the hour before sunset, is almost always my recommendation for outdoor sessions. The light is soft, warm, and forgiving, and it photographs beautifully on everyone regardless of skin tone. Morning sessions work well too, especially for families with early risers or babies who nap in the afternoon.
A Note on Permits and Fees
Some of these locations charge a small entrance or photography fee, which I’ll always flag when we’re planning your session. It’s a small price for a truly unforgettable backdrop.
